“WRITING FAST” BY JEFF BOLLOW, AS THE TITLE SUGGESTS, IS A BOOK ABOUT IMPROVING YOUR WRITING SPEED, WHETHER IS BE AN ARTICLE, REPORT OR BOOK.
Jeff Bollow is an American born film and video producer who has been based in Australia for the past eight years. He also runs a course on scriptwriting so he has a keen interest in helping writers improve their skills.
I read this book as I was looking for a way to overcome writer’s block and systematically approach any writing project. I wanted some insight on ways to improve my writing output and “Writing Fast” promised to do just that.
Fast, from the title of the book stands for the acronym, Focus, Apply Strengthen Tweek. These are the four phases of the writing process Jeff outlines in his book. Under the focus phase the writer plans out the writing project and the book describes in depth, factors to consider. The apply phase is where you actually write the first draft. There are some good tips on how to improve your writing speed. In the strengthen phase, you basically edit what you have written and the final phase is tweeking the writing project. This is where you polish the piece of writing, further.
I liked the book’s casual style which makes it an easy read. Jeff practises what he preaches as he is very methodical in his approach and he gives you very important information you will not find elsewhere.
At 208 pages “Writing Fast” is not overly long, nor is full of waffle. The table of contents gives you a quick reference to relevant sections which is handy, as this is the type of book you will be using as a reference over and over again.
So does the book deliver and provide good value for money. Yes, I think it will improve you writing speed and it does provide good value for money. It’s a treasured ebook in my library.
